General Responsibilities:
- To fulfill your God given call as Pastor of Youth and Education with the people of American Reformed Church in dedication and commitment to Jesus Christ and consistent with the God given vision and purpose of American Reformed Church.
- Will meet with and resource the education committee and have a primary role with the committee to:
A. Seek out and develop personnel
B. Evaluate and establish curriculum
C. Develop an overall comprehensive program
- To attend the regular consistory meetings and give a regular report on the youth and education ministry.
- To take responsibility for personal spiritual growth (maintaining spiritual disciplines in their own life) and professional growth (networking with others, attendance at seminars and workshops, reading).
- Maintain office hours coordinated with the lead pastor.
- Attend weekly regularly scheduled staff meetings for the purpose of planning, coordinating, and mutual encouragement.
- Vacation and study times coordinated with the senior pastor and approved by consistory and/or the executive committee.
¨ Youth ministry:
à Develop and administer a comprehensive youth program for ages middle school - college.
à To recruit and train youth leaders to minister as youth sponsors as directed by the education committee.
à To encourage youth sponsors by meeting with them regularly and facilitating regular communication, including times of prayer.
à To implement programs to strengthen the relationship of our youth to the Church by encouraging them to worship, and reminding them they are part of the church family.
à Understanding the relational aspect of youth ministry, there is a need to be with students.
à To present the truths of the Bible and to encourage young people to take seriously the claims of Christ and affirm their relationship to Him.
à To evaluate and purchase materials needed for youth activities in consultation with other members of the youth team.
à To organize and plan youth mission trips, retreats, participation in youth events.
¨ Education:
à To work with the education committee in developing a comprehensive education program for American Reformed Church using your skills and knowledge and/or the resources of RCA denominational staff or other resources.
à Be available to teach in the Sunday School program and Wednesday night program with the counsel of the education committee.
à To assist lay leaders in the Sunday School and Midweek program in recruitment, training, and orientation of volunteers.
à To assist in the review and selection of curriculum.
à To coordinate any adult education opportunities with the small group coordinator.
¨ Worship:
à Expected to be present at worship services unless involved in youth or education activities that might conflict.
à To assist in services of worship for the purpose of both visibility and leadership as requested by the senior pastor.
à To preach once per month with other opportunities available during lead pastor’s absence.
¨ Accountability:
à The Pastor of Youth and Education shall be accountable to the senior pastor.
à A bi-annual review and visit with the Executive Committee/Personnel Committee of the consistory will take place for the purpose of encouragement, celebration and constructive criticism, which will include a presentation of goals for the coming months and year.
Remuneration: Will be consistent with the guidelines of the Regional Synod of Mid America as approved by the Illiana Classis.
